Kyle Tucker has gotten off to about as good of a start as possible as a member of the Chicago Cubs. King Tuck currently leads the team in hits, doubles, home runs, runs batted in, base on balls, and runs scored. His start to the year has been so good that he actually achieved something last done by a Cubs player nearly 100 years ago.
Kyle Tucker and Rogers Hornsby both got off to incredible starts with the Chicago Cubs

According to Christopher Kamka, Tucker became the first Cubs player since Rogers Hornsby in 1929 to collect 11 or more hits, runs, walks, and runs batted in throughout the first 11 games of a season. Coincidentally, they both have done this during their first seasons with the Cubs as Hornsby joined the team that year after spending 12 seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, one with the New York Giants, and one with the Boston Braves.

Digging deeper into Tucker and Hornsby’s first 11 games

Here is how Tucker and Hornsby compared in 11 game sample sizes to begin their Cubs careers.
- 2025 Kyle Tucker: 13 hits, 11 runs, 11 walks, 11 runs batted in
- 1929 Rogers Hornsby: 16 hits, 11 runs, 11 walks, 11 runs batted in
In 1929, Hornsby went on to win his second and final MVP award after a hot start to the season. Tucker does not have an MVP award to his name yet, but he finished fifth in 2023 and received votes in the two years beforehand. If history continues to repeat itself, 2025 will be Tucker’s year.
