Jordan Palmer and Trent Edwards will be the only quarterbacks playing for the Bears tonight.
CHICAGO- With Jay Cutler and Josh McCown not playing tonight, and with Matt Blanchard given his walking papers this week, it’s up to Jordan Palmer and Trent Edwards to run the offense for the Bears this evening.
In two hours, the Bears will kick off their 2013 preseason finale against the Cleveland Browns. It is expected that the starters and a fair amount of second team players will not see the field tonight.
Tonight is all about the bottom of the depth chart with the major focus being on the bubble positions. There may not be any bubbles with the quarterback position, but Palmer and Edwards are hoping to claim a roster spot.
One of these men are hoping that the Bears will decide to keep three passers on the 53-man roster. Neither man is eligible for the practice squad so chances are that these men will be auditioning for jobs with other franchises.
Bears head coach Marc Trestman has stated that Palmer will start tonight’s game and Edwards will eventually relieve him. Palmer has the most to prove as he has only thrown 15 regular season passes in his NFL career. Edwards on the other hand has been a starter for a good chunk of his career.
At least one of these men will need to make a very good impression on the Bears’ coaching staff tonight if they want a roster spot this weekend. The Bears will have to make their official 53-man roster by Saturday.
