The Chicago Bulls will be out one of their talented young players when they open up the 2018-19 NBA season in just a few weeks.
After suffering a right elbow injury, the Bulls announced that Laurri Markkanen underwent an MRI and will miss at least 6-8 weeks. The team officially ruled it as a high-grade lateral elbow sprain for the 21-year-old who was named to the NBA’s All-Rookie team a year ago.

Markkanen was a bright spot for the Bulls last season after being selected No. 7 overall by Minnesota and then traded to Chicago. He averaged 15.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game and made 145 3-pointers last season.
The forward is considered one of the key pieces in Chicago’s rebuild and any setback is not good news for this franchise. In his absence, rookie Wendell Carter Jr. could see an uptick in playing time.
