The Chicago Bulls entered Wednesday’s contest unsure of the status of two starters as the team begins their rebuild following Sunday night’s trade of Zach LaVine to the Sacramento Kings.
The Golden State Warriors had their eyes on center Nikola Vucevic this week if they could not execute a swap for Jimmy Butler. Per multiple reports on Wednesday night, Butler is headed to the Warriors.
The Chicago Bulls appear stuck with a few veterans
The move means Vucevic’s odds of staying in Chicago until the summer have increased unless the other team that was in the hunt for the aging big man returns to the conversation.
The Bulls were also shopping point guard Lonzo Ball, although cash concerns were holding up talks. Now, he appears to be staying in Chicago with Vucevic following a surprise move on Wednesday night.
The Bulls extended Lonzo Ball
Per K.C. Johnson of CHSN, the Bulls signed Ball to a new contract extension.
“The Bulls are finalizing an extension with Lonzo Ball, per team sources,” Johnson posted on X. “The extension is 2 years for $20, per league source.”

At 27, Ball is averaging 7.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. Ball has been with Chicago since 2021 but missed all of the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons due to a knee injury.
Ball made a miraculous return to the court this season and has created another complication for the Bulls front office.
