After losing 2 out of 3 to the lowly Astros, Lou had to do something to fix the Cubs struggling offense. Marlon Byrd, who has 574 career at-bats as a leadoff hitter, will now bat 1st against left-handers. Jeff Baker will bat second, Xavier Nady will bat cleanup, Aramis Ramirez, the Cubs’ regular cleanup hitter, will be moved down to 5th, and Ryan Theriot will be moved to the 8th spot. Time will tell if these changes pay off, and we’ll have a great chance to see if these changes pay off in the series against the Mets, where they face 3 left-handed pitchers in the 4 game series.
Marlon Byrd’s career Leadoff statistics: 161/574, .280 AVG, 11 HRs, 53 RBI, 12 SB, .752 OPS, 101/52 K/BB.
