After a solid preseason debut that ended prematurely for Wright, his path to being the starting free safety took a turn for the worst. He has suffered a setback from his broken left index finger, and is unlikely to start week 1. The Bears have already ruled him out for the rest of the preseason and Danieal Manning will start at strong safety against the Raiders on Saturday, with Chris Harris at free safety.
While Wright may be injured, don’t count him out in becoming the Bears starting FS once he’s healthy. Harris is more of an SS and the Bears need Wright’s speed, range, and tackling ability at a position that has been a revolving door for the Bears ever since Mike Brown was let go in 2009.
