In the 9th inning of tonight’s game, Manny Ramirez stepped into the on-deck circle ripe and ready to make his White Sox debut. But A.J. Pierzysnki had different plans.
In a 1-1 game, with 2 on and 1 out, A.J. went yard giving the Sox a 4-1 lead which would eventually hold up at 4-3.
Sure Manny didn’t do much but stand on deck, but his presence was certainly felt. I don’t want to read into it too much, but even without swinging the bat, he provided a nice sense of protection for A.J.
Instead working hard to make sure A.J. never saw anything great to hit, Smith went right at Pierzysnki, and let up the big fly.
I know it’s not much for the first day in a Sox uniform, but to not make a plate appearance, and still earn yourself some publicity, and actually affect the game. That’s pretty impressive for Manny’s pseudo-debut.
