The White Sox have placed Mark Teahen on the 15 day DL due to an oblique strain. The move is retroactive to May 12 and Teahen will be eligible to return May 27. The Sox purchased the contract of Dallas McPherson from AAA to replace Teahen. According to Mark Gonzales of the Tribune, the Sox called up McPherson because “McPherson provides a LH bat and insurance at the corners”. This move also gives the Sox the opportunity to play Omar Vizquel at 2nd and a left handed bat to go with Morel.
Teahen was batting .226 with 1 homer and 4 RBIs.
McPherson, 30, was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2001 draft by the Anaheim Angels. He was batting .305 with 3 homers and 17 RBIs in 31 games for AAA Charlotte. He has seen time with the Angels and Marlins. In his Major League career he has a .245 average with 18 homers 45 RBIs and a .245 OBP over 4 seasons.
With McPherson moving to the Sox, the Sox have chosen to bring Drew Garcia from AA to AAA. Garcia, 25, was drafted in the 21 round of the 2008 draft by the White Sox. He has a .268 average with 25 homers and 189 RBIs over 4 Minor League Seasons. He plays 2B and SS.
