Ryan Dempster threw 7.2 innings of 1 run ball. Dempster struck out 8 while walking only 2. However, Carlos Marmol blew the save and cost Dempster the “W.”
The Cubs only mustered 2 runs against a weak Houston pitching staff. Marlon Byrd provided both of the Cubs’ RBIs. Both runs came against the starter Wandy Rodriguez. Houston’s bullpen held Chicago scoreless for the final 3 innings of play.
Sean Marshall suffered the loss.
The Cubs head to New York for a 4 game series vs. the Mets.
