Justin Fields is gelling with his wide receivers
Justin Fields and the Chicago Bears appeared to make improvements on offense during a shortened day of practice during Wednesday’s mandatory minicamp. A sweaty-looking head coach Matt Eberflus addressed the media following a practice that he said the Bears shortened due to heat. A day after the reports from practice were critical of the talent-short unit, Eberflus praised Fields for his performance Wednesday.
“Really nice day today. Really nice,” Matt Eberflus said, looking pleased about his second-year quarterback. “[Fields] Made a lot of nice passes on all parts of the field. His timing was really good and it was a good day for him.”
Eberflus noticed the Bears’ offense played better overall, making chunk plays. Fields’ accuracy had improved from Tuesday and was “on point,” Eberflus said. Fields and the skilled offensive groups have been working on getting on the same page with their “time on task” offensive operations, he said.
“You can see [Fields] and [Darnell] Mooney start to gel, [Byron] Pringle start to gel, him and [Equanimeous St Brown] starting to gel. So it’s a process as we go. But we are in that process right now and some days it looks really good, some days we know we got to get work done. So we’re there right now.”
Reporters were impressed with Justin Fields Wednesday
With eyewitness reports that Justin Fields and the Bears offense looked crummy on Tuesday, reporters tweeted more positive assessments from minicamp Wednesday:

Chicago Bears will be making roster evaluations Thursday
Much better news than yesterday. The Bears have one more day of minicamp, and then Eberflus said he will be meeting with general manager Ryan Poles about the shape of the roster. One of the talking points with Poles will be about second-year tackle Teven Jenkins.
Jenkins practiced with the second team Tuesday and was reportedly beaten by undrafted rookie Carson Taylor. With Dakota Dozier being carted off in yesterday’s practice, there was speculation Jenkins might get a look at guard. Currently, that is not the case.
“So Teven right now is at right tackle and that’s what he’s focusing on. Like we said yesterday there could be switches, you know, after this segment of the offseason leading into training camp,” Eberflus said. “So we’re just taking it day by day. We’ll have a big meeting tomorrow with Ryan [Poles] and his staff, with all the coaches to reassess the whole roster before the players and the coaches go on break. That’ll be a real good meeting for us, and we’ll see where [Jenkins] is from there.”
