While the starters saw limited action in Thursday’s preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers, one rookie really stood out for the Chicago Bears.
Running back David Montgomery got his first NFL game action as he played in the first half of Chicago’s loss to Carolina. It didn’t take long for Montgomery to make an impression as he ended a 6-play, 49-yard scoring drive with an impressive touchdown run. Montgomery finished the game with 46 total yards including 30 receiving yards on 3 receptions.
Following the game, head coach Matt Nagy had nothing but praise for the rookie running back:
The opportunities that he had was everything we thought he could do. He runs hard, he runs really, really hard, he runs violent and he’s angry when he runs and he’s tough to bring down with that first defender, and you could see run after the catch, but then he made a nice play on special teams, too, saving that return. He wanted more. That kid won’t stop but I told him he’s — no more, he’s done.
Nagy didn’t want to get too far ahead of himself in his postgame press conference and stopped himself when comparing Montgomery to previous Bears running backs:
It’s still early in preseason but the Bears may have found a gem in the third-round of the draft.

Maybe it’s too soon for Nagy to gush, but I can remember the ‘ Kansas Comet ‘ as a rookie, and ” You just knew that guy was gonna be special ”
I feel that same way about David Montgomery.
His touches might be limited in this O’s scheme and the era he will play in, but our team has found a true gem.
Kudos to Nagy and Pace for getting scheme/plan teammates with ‘stellar’ personality traits.
I feel they are actually building a wonderfully sustainable future for the City of Chicago and am totally looking forward to this season
Go BEARs !!!!!!!!!!!!
