Chicago Bears QB Caleb Williams urged to ask for trade amid special treatment for Mike McCarthy

General manager Ryan Poles finally has a date with Mike McCarthy one week after the Chicago Bears requested an interview with the former Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys head coach.

Last week, the Cowboys denied the Bears’ request to speak with McCarthy. However, Dallas announced they were parting ways with the 61-year-old head coach after five seasons with the Cowboys. The winning head coach of the Green Bay Packers for Super Bowl XLV is now a free agent and will meet with the Bears on Wednesday.

But how McCarthy is interviewing with the Bears is turning heads. Most of the candidates Chicago has interviewed thus far have been in a virtual setting for the first round. The Bears are switching that up with McCarthy.

Chicago Bears to interview Mike McCarthy in person

Per Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network, Chicago will fly McCarthy into Halas Hall for his interview.

“Mike McCarthy’s interview with the Bears on Wednesday will be at Halas Hall,” Pelissero posted on X. “An important day in Chicago’s search.”

The in-person interview highlights how serious the Bears are about McCarthy, a head coach who has defeated their franchise 19 times. Chicago has other competition or McCarthy, including the New Orleans Saints, so they could feel pressure to hire him quickly if the interview goes well.

Caleb Williams urged to ask for a trade if McCarthy gets the job

Fans on social media reacted to the news the Bears were expediting the interview process with McCarthy. Some fans are urging quarterback Caleb Williams to ask for a trade if Chicago hires McCarthy.

“I’ve accepted this as my fate,” wrote a fan.

“Wow! In person and not video. Not the choice for me. That guy signed in New England where they win championships,” posted a fan about Mike Vrabel.

“The bears will be even more unlikeable next season. Caleb needs to really think about demanding a trade,” wrote another.

“Mr McCarthy Welcome to ChicAgo This is a done deal IMO Caleb requests a trade after this tweet,” posted a fan.

“If McCarthy goes to the Bears and I were Caleb, I would ask for a trade,” suggested another.
