Rookie quarterback Mitchell Trubisky had his best performance of the year this past Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. He completed 25 of 32 passes for 271 yards and had both a passing and rushing touchdown.
It was the first time all season that Trubisky had a multi-touchdown game. His performance ranks up there with one of the best Bears rookie quarterback performances of all-time.
Trubisky became the first rookie quarterback to rush and pass for a touchdown in a game since Jim McMahon did it all the way back in 1982. McMahon did in a 26-13 win over the Patriots that saw him throw two red-zone touchdowns and scamper for a six yard score.
Best play of the game by the young QB. 4 wk zone blitz roll away from pressure hit Wright on 3rd down. Nice ! pic.twitter.com/rHpot5Fj6G

Against Cincinnati, both of Trubisky’s touchdowns came within Cincinnati’s five yard line.
The Bears produced 428-plus yards of offense against the Bengals, the most since their 490-yard game against the Dallas Cowboys in 2013.
Trubisky’s ability throwing the ball opened up the rushing attack as the game wore on. Jordan Howard, Tarik Cohen, and Trubisky combined to rush for 136 of the team’s 232 rushing yards in the second half of the game. Of the 96 rushing yards in the first half, 35 yards came on the Bears first two rushes plays of the game.
With three games left in the season, Trubisky still has a chance to break the Bears all-time rookie quarterback performance in a game which was set back in 1999 by Cade McNown. McNown had his best game as rookie and as a Bears when he passed for 301 yards and four touchdowns in a win against the Detroit Lions in a late December game.
Oddly enough, Trubisky will play the Lions on Saturday for the second time this season.
