If you paid close attention to Kris Bryant during the 2016 MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday night, something may have caught your attention.
In the four innings Bryant played, which included hitting a home run, he wore three different colors of an adidas baseball cleat. That’s right, Bryant switched shoes in between innings.
Bryant sported the new adizero Afterburner “Dipped” cleat as part of the adidas Baseball collection and did it in three different colorways. It’s believed that Bryant is the first player in Major League Baseball history to wear three different colors of a cleat.
The 24-year-old is quickly becoming the face of the adidas baseball brand after signing a deal with the company in 2014. He’s arguably the favorite to win the NL MVP award this season after a spectacular first half, having the Cubs in first place by 7.5 games in the NL Center.
Bryant took the field in the new “Ocean” colorway of the shoe, a personal favorite of his. He then switched to the “Power Red” and “Infrared” colorways in the following innings.
adidas will officially release the new cleat in stores on August 1 with the collection featuring 15 different colors to choose from. During the first inning, adidas launched a special flash sale on their website for the cleat in the “Ocean” color which was $100.
Despite the National League losing 4-2, Bryant made an impact on the game in more than one way.
