Things got crazy at Wrigley Field Friday afternoon during the Chicago Cubs win over the St. Louis Cardinals to open a three-game series.
After John Lackey appeared to have thrown strike three to Carlos Martinez, it was rule a ball and Martinez recorded a base hit to give the Cardinals the lead. Both Lackey and Willson Contreras didn’t like the call and argued with umpire Jordan Baker.
Both were tossed but the fear was that Contreras would be suspended after slamming his mask and it hit Baker.
Now Major League Baseball has announced that Willson Contreras will be suspended two games. ESPN Cubs reporter Jesse Rogers reports that Contreras will appeal:
Willson Contreras has been suspended for two games for his actions in Friday's game against the Cardinals but… https://t.co/dIKP9sX0pe

Losing Contreras for any time hurts this Cubs offense in the middle of a pennant race. We will now have to wait and see if it will get reduced or upheld.

Not fair – the ump knows he was wrong! I’m glad the CUBS won the game and I hope they keep winning.
Are you kidding ? When the hell is Baseball going to start suspending the umpires for making such outrageous bullshit calls. It’s bad enough the players have to deal with this crappy ass strike zone that’s never the same and especially now so close to the playoffs. Now so close to playoffs when you have teams fighting for a spot your going to suspend players for this bs mistake the officials made.As long as you keep kissing the ass of the Officials this shit will never stop.Maybe its just time for a fan strike again to show Baseball it has to STOP.
I agree with David !!!!
