It wasn’t long ago that former prospects Kris Bryant, Kyle Schwarber, Javier Baez and Addison Russell among others were playing in the MLB Futures Game. With all of them at the big league level, it’s time for other prospects to make their mark.
In steps prospect Eloy Jimenez.
Jimenez along with infielder Jeimer Candelario represented the Cubs on the World Team in the game taking place in San Diego, California on Sunday night. The annual game pits the best players in the minors on two teams: the World Team and Team USA.
While Jimenez hasn’t made it to the big leagues yet, he made a spectacular catch during Sunday’s game in a ball hit to right field.
Jimenez made a long run and tracked the ball down near the seats and fell over the wall, holding onto the ball:
He also hit a three-run home run in the game.
The 6-foot-4, 205 pound Jimenez is the 9th ranked prospect in the Cubs’ farm system by Baseball Prospectus. He’s currently slashing .332/.372/.527 in Single A for the South Bend Cubs. He has 10 home runs and 58 RBI’s in 80 games and if he continues to shine, we could see him with the team sooner than later.
