The Chicago Cubs could have a magical season with the moves they’ve made so far, and MLB Network thinks so as well with making a bold prediction.
The Chicago Cubs have made a ton of moves so far this offseason to improve their chances at making the playoffs, which they haven’t been to with their last appearance coming five years ago. With the Cubs biggest acquisitions coming when they acquired superstar outfielder Kyle Tucker from the Houston Astros, they are primed to break that drought. MLB Network has taken notice of some of the Cubs moves with them making a bold prediction for them for this season.
MLB Networks prediction
MLB Network sent out a tweet recently of their bold predictions for every team for this upcoming season and they had the Chicago Cubs bold prediction as them winning a playoff game this year. The Cubs have not won a playoff game since 2017 when they won a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers who ended up losing the World Series that year to the aforementioned Houston Astros.
The Cubs are primed to finally do so with the roster they have assembled so far. With the additional additions of relievers Eli Morgan, Caleb Thielbar, and Ben Heller to name a few options for the bullpen. Signing Colin Rea to a one-year deal to be a potential swingman between the rotation and bullpen, as well as adding Carson Kelly, Vidal Brujan, and having top prospect Matt Shaw potentially be their starting third basemen the Cubs have had a solid offseason.
The slow building process
It has taken five years, but President of Baseball Operations Jed Hoyer has assembled a team good enough to take on the Milwaukee Brewers who are the reigning National League Central Champions and dethrone them. With adding Japanese superstar Shot Imanaga and Seiya Suzuki prior to this year and both figuring to be core pieces in both the Cubs offense and pitching staff, Jed Hoyer is one move away from making the roster complete to start the season.
The Cubs need one more elite starting pitcher to round out their rotation so they can have a dominate three headed monster, with Imanaga and fellow lefty Justin Steele looking to both be Cy Young finishers this season. With another Japanese superstar pitcher in Roki Sasaki officially going to be posted this Wednesday and the Cubs being one of the teams reported to be ‘in’ on signing Sasaki adding him would give the Cubs that Ace they so need and better their chances in making MLB Networks prediction come true.
