The AHL Calder Cup Playoffs have started and the IceHogs seem to have started off on the wrong skate. Last night the Lake Erie Monsters took a big chomp out of the Hog, decisively beating them, 5-2. Monsters goalie, Joonas Korpisalo, was stellar in net, coming up with amazing save after save, much to the Hogs chagrin.
Rightfully all 3 Stars of the Game went to the Monsters. Former IceHogs player, Alex Broadhurst, took the #1 honors, with Korpisalo #2 and Zach Werenski was #3.
On a brighter note, IceHogs’ netminder, Mac Carruth was honored by the AHL this week by being named the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for his stellar performances for week ending April 17th. IceHogs’ GM, Mark Bernard, presented the award to Carruth before the game during opening the ceremony.
Round 1, Game 2 between Rockford and Lake Erie is tonight at 7pm in Rockford. Games 3-5 are scheduled to be held in Cleveland, OH.
