Another day, another game, and the same old story for the Chicago Cubs. Looking to leave Milwaukee with at least one win, the Cubs tried to come up with a victory on Sunday. But just like Saturday, errors continued to haunt the North Siders as they dropped the series finale, 4-2.
Scott Feldman made his third start for the Cubs and had his best stuff by far. He cruised through the first four innings, allowing just one run. Anthony Rizzo got the Cubs off to an early lead with a two run homer to deep right center field in the third inning. Although his average is down, Rizzo now has six home runs on the season. But his deep shot would be all the offense could mustard up today.
A lack of offense left the game up to the Cubs pitching staff and defense, which is a major problem. Feldman got himself into a jam in the fifth inning after giving up a lead off double to Betancourt. After getting back to back strikeouts it appeared Feldman would escape the inning without giving up another run. But the Cubs committed another error that kept the inning alive. Then Feldman made a mistake and Ryan Braun hit a three run shot to give the Brewers a 4-2 lead.
With the Cubs offense non existent, the Brewers had no trouble the rest of the way and were able to complete the sweep.
Cubs manager Dale Sveum made some very interesting comments, directly mostly at Starlin Castro. Dale mentioned the possibility of sending Castro to Triple A with his constant mental errors. It is certainly a story to watch but considering Castro has a 13 game hitting streak, it’s not going to happen.
The schedule does not get any easier as the Cubs now travel to Cincinnati to take on the Reds. Game time is set for 6:10 on Tuesday night.
