The Chicago Bulls have selected Bobby Portis out of the University of Arkansas with the 22nd overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. After several guards were taken ahead of the Bulls pick, the team decided to go with the 6-foot-11 big man out of Arkansas.
Portis averaged 17.5 points and 8.9 rebounds per game last year at Arkansas. He also won SEC player of the year for the 2014-15 season.
The Bulls front court is aging and hurting as Pau Gasol is likely in his final year or two with the Bulls, Joakim Noah and Taj Gibson have been dealing with injuries of their own. It’s interesting that the still Bulls didn’t go with a guard to solve the backup problem, but now the team has a young core to build around.
