The Chicago Bears have officially kicked off a new era of football when they held a introductory press conference for new head coach Ben Johnson on Wednesday.
Johnson delivered a very impressive and passionate opening press conference explaining his plans for the team, what fans and players should expect from him, what he expects from his players, and his reasoning for coming to Chicago. A major takeaway from this press conference was the message he delivered to the front office.
ESPN’s Courtney Cronin posted on X,
“Ben Johnson delivers messages to specific individuals, from George McCaskey to Kevin Warren to Ryan Poles.”
Looking directly at Poles seated in the front row, Johnson told the GM, “we are going to be in lock step every step of the way.”
Johnson delivered a great message to the GM, explaining how they will be united every step of the way and that this will not be a one man show. Both Johnson and Poles will work together to bring a winning formula back to Chicago.
Cronin also noted that Johnson thanked the Bears search comittee for “providing the necessary resources for him to build the team that he wants.”
With over 66 million dollars in cap space, a young franchise quarterback in Caleb Williams, and many great play makers such as D”Andre Swift, Cole Kmet, Rome Odunze, and DJ Moore, Johnson has the tools to build an exciting team for the Bears.
Ben Johnson wanted to come to the Chicago Bears from the start
During Johnson’s zoom interview with the Bears, it seemed he left a lasting impression on chairman George McCaskey. McCaskey spoke to reporters following Johnson’s press conference Wednesday and discussed how Johnson instantly showed how badly he wanted this job. Adam Hoge posted about it on X:
“According to Bears chairman George McCaskey, Ben Johnson’s first words on his Zoom interview were: “I want this job.”
And his last words were: “Did I tell you that I want this job?” “
It seems that Johnson was beyond interested in being the head coach of the Chicago Bears from the start. In his first press conference as Bears head coach, Johnson has shown more energy and excitement than any of the last four Bears head coaches.
