2. Gervon Dexter makes the PFWA All-Rookie Team
Dexter was rated higher than Jalen Carter at defensive tackle coming out of high school. Carter flourished in the Georgia program. Dexter was a solid player at Florida but obviously wasn’t rated high enough to be a first-round prospect out of college.
Poles thinks Dexter’s lack of production at Florida was due to their defensive scheme. Dexter had to “gap and mirror,” where he would step to where the guard was moving instead of trying to penetrate into the backfield.
Dexter’s talents should fit better the Bears’ scheme. He should get plenty of playing time on the defensive line that was the worst in the league last year. I think he could be good enough to make the All-Rookie team.
