The Chicago Bears attempted to trade up for Jalen Ramsey
Looks like the Chicago Bears definitely could have their sights set on improving their secondary when the NFL Draft resumes tonight for Rounds 2 and 3.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Bears made an attempt to trade up in the draft last night to nab Florida State all-world DB Jalen Ramsey (wouldn’t that have been amazing?), who ended up going to the Jacksonville Jaguars with the 5th overall pick.

While this might have just been an attempt to grab one of the best overall players in the draft regardless of position (though he can play both corner and safety), it seems that bolstering the back end of the defense is going to be high on the list of priorities tonight and tomorrow.
With that in mind, let’s look at some corner prospects still on the board after Round 1:
Mackensie Alexander—Clemson
• Slid down draft boards possibly due to his lack of ideal size and lack of production in terms of INTs (0). He won’t last through the end of the second round, so if the Bears see him at pick #41, that’s going to be their chance to grab the top remaining cornerback prospect.
Kendall Fuller—Virginia Tech
• Could we have brothers in the Bears’ defensive backfield? Maybe, if they think that Fuller will be healthy enough. Widely thought of as the best of the Fuller clan, he could perhaps slide into the third corner spot with an eye on a starter’s role. Consensus 2nd round pick despite the injury, so keep an eye out for him.
KeiVarie Russell—Notre Dame
• Arguably could have been a first round pick if not for a lost season (2013-2014) due to academic suspension. He struggled to regain his form early last year, then turned it on in big moments against Temple and USC before fracturing his tibia. Tough, versatile, athletic, and experienced (started all games since his freshman year), he should be on the Bears’ radar tonight.
The Bears have a number of ways they can go tonight (DE, TE, OT, S) besides upgrading at corner, but there’s some prime talent still available on the outside of the defense in these next two rounds. With Bears having the 10th pick in the second round, at least one of these guys could fall their way, giving them a chance to add more quality to their secondary.
