Wow, just wow.
No one really saw the move coming but in the end the Chicago Bears got their guy. With the Cleveland Browns opening up the 2017 NFL Draft by taking Myles Garret, the Bears made their move.
Chicago traded the No. 3 overall pick, a 2017 3rd round pick, a 2017 fourth round pick and a 2018 third round pick to move up one spot. With that pick, they selected University of North Carolina Tar Heels quarterback Mitch Trubisky.
The former UNC quarterback started just 13 games but played in 30 during his three-year career at UNC and the hope is that he’s the future at the position.
Following the first round of the draft, General Manager Ryan Pace explained why the Bears made the move and revealed that Trubisky was their guy all along:
As you see, Pace also states that Mike Glennon is currently the starter and that there won’t be any competition in training camp.
That can all change, however.
Chicago will pick No. 36 overall when the draft continues with the second and third rounds on Friday and don’t be shocked if they trade down to try and grab more picks.
It was a bold move, but it might pay off for Pace in the long run.
