There’s just 49 days until football that is actually counted will be played at Soldier Field. To help countdown, we are doing a post a day resembling that number.
Today we are going to talk about one of the opponents on the 2015 schedule, the San Francisco 49ers. The two teams will play for the 64th time as they square off at Soldier Field in week 13. The 49ers own the all-time series lead 32-30 with the teams tying once.
The teams met last season in week two at the opening of Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara with the Bears taking the game 28-20 in what was a big win for the team, at the time. Prior to that matchup, the Bears hadn’t won in San Francisco in 20+ years. Bears quarterback Jay Cutler threw for 176 yards and 4 touchdowns in what was a spectacular second half performance.
But Cutler wasn’t the only Bears player making a major impact. First round pick Kyle Fuller picked off Colin Kaepernick twice in the second half to help out a struggling Bears defense:

This will be a different 49ers team in 2015 however. Head coach Jim Harbaugh is gone, Frank Gore is gone and linebacker Patrick Willis retired in the off-season. Oh, did we mention that former defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has taken over that role for the Chicago Bears?
The 2015 meeting will be one of two different teams that could be heading into two future directions. But there’s still a lot of football to be played until the two meet.
