2. Chicago Bears backup quarterback play
P.J. Walker was inked as the Bears’ second-string quarterback heading into the Tennessee Titans game. Walker played terribly Saturday, going four-of-eight in passing for 19 yards and one really bad interception. Pro Football Focus graded Walker as the Bears’ worst performer on offense.
As Greg Braggs with CHGO noted during the game, Walker has been making those throws during training camp.

Walker was brought in this offseason after a 2022 season that saw him make five starts with the Carolina Panthers. Walker wasn’t amazing, but he played well enough to deserve a backup role. He is familiar with two other former Panthers that joined the Bears this offseason, Moore and running back D’Onta Foreman.
Walker’s transition to Chicago isn’t working. Unfortunately, the Bears don’t have other great options on the quarterback roster behind Justin Fields. Nathan Peterman is…we know what Peterman is. He was the Bears’ third-string backup last season, and he’s not setting the league on fire in 2023.
Rookie UDFA Tyson Bagent should get more playing time after his performance Saturday. It would still seem hard to imagine a DII quarterback being ready to be a QB2 in his rookie season. I’d like to see him mature in the NFL first.
What do the Bears do here? Carson Wentz, Nick Foles, and Matt Ryan are available. But they don’t seem like great options to run offensive coordinator Luke Getsy’s offense.
