It’s week Six in the NFL season, and by now the fantasy season is just starting to heat up. Every week is a critical week for your team, especially with bye weeks starting up last week.
This is an interesting week fantasy wise, with a lot of nice match-ups for some big time players. Aaron Rodgers goes up against a poor St. Louis pass defense. While Adrian Peterson has to be licking his chops going against the Bears defense, especially after what Jahvid Best did to them last Monday night.
I’m here to give you advice on who to start, and who to sit on your team. Hopefully, I guide you to a way of victory. If not, at least we got the NBA right around the corner right? Ah, never mind.
Start’em
Cam Newton, QB (Carolina Panthers)
What’s there not to love about the number one overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft? Newton has put up at least 30 points (43, 38, 39, 31) in four of his five starts this season. He’s going up against an Atlanta pass defense that’s given up at least 20+ points to opposing quarterbacks in four of the five games this season. I figure Newton will keep his hot streak going and get around 28 points this week.
Shonn Greene, RB (New York Jets)
Greene has been a disappointment for fantasy owners all season. But there’s still time to turn it around, and I believe this is the week to do it. Last week he recorded a season high 14 points against the Patriots. This week however, he goes against a Dolphins run defense that has struggled of late. Including giving up over 20 points in their last game against the Chargers. This could be a big game for Greene, and being the Monday Night Football Game, he could be the difference in winning and losing your game this week.
Gregg Little, WR (Cleveland Browns)
Your probably asking yourself why I like Gregg Little this week. Well, he’s been named the starter in Cleveland after the bye week, so he will get his looks. I’m confident he will surprise a lot of people against a respectable Raiders pass defense. You won’t be asking yourself who Gregg Little is after this week.
Bengals Defense
A defense? Really? Yes, I show love for defenses too. In this case, the Bengals (a top 5) NFL defense is getting love from me. There’s no reason why you shouldn’t start this defense this week. The reason I like them so much? They are going against a struggling Colts offense.
Steve Smith, WR (Carolina Panthers)
It looks like Smith has resurrected his career this year with Cam Newton taking the helm at quarterback. Smith is going against a Atlanta secondary who can’t seem to stop the pass this year. I figure Smith gets a touchdown and one or two big plays down the field.
Sit’em
Matt Schaub,QB (Houston Texans)
Schaub has always been a hit or miss quarterback fantasy wise. This week I avoid starting him for two reasons. He still doesn’t have Andre Johnson in the lineup, and he’s going against the Baltimore Ravens. If you have a good enough backup, then bench Schaub. If your backup is Matt Moore or Kevin Kolb, then your better off with Schaub. No seriously.
DeAngelo Williams, RB (Carolina Panthers)
Another hit or miss running back fantasy wise. A few years ago he was a stud for the Panthers and many fantasy teams. The past two seasons he’s been nothing but a dud. I expect the dud DeAngelo Williams to show up against the Falcons on Sunday.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB (Pittsburgh Steelers)
I could pretty much write the same thing for Mendenhall that I did for Williams. I’m still waiting for him to have a decent game, and I just don’t see it happening this week. He should be on your bench, and at best a flex option if needed.
Josh Freeman, QB (Tampa Bay Bucs)
Okay, Freeman hasn’t been horrible…but he hasn’t been great either. He had a real good game against the Colts two weeks ago, but laid an egg against the 49er’s last week. Going against a tough Saints pass defense, I see Freeman laying another egg. Hopefully on your bench.
Brandon Marshall, WR (Miami Dolphins)
Seriously. What has gotten into this guy? He predicts he will be ejected from the game by the 2nd quarter on Monday Night. Even if he doesn’t, your better off not starting him
