NHL Stadium Series preview — Blackhawks v. Penguins

Thanks to our friends at Can-Am Spyder, we have an opportunity to give you live coverage at the NHL’s latest installment of the NHL Stadium Series as your defending Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks take on the Pittsburgh Penguins at Soldier Field! BRP and Can-Am Spyder are official partners of the NHL and throughout the season are bringing special experiences to the Coors Light NHL Stadium Series outdoor games and the Stanley Cup playoffs.

For the Solider Field game, Can-Am Spyder will join the fun by using its unique three-wheel stance and seven automotive technologies to transport Coors Light explorers across the field, who will bring select fans free Coors Light after the first intermission.

Following their 20-day Olympic layoff, the Blackhawks look to trip up the Eastern Conference-leading Penguins in their first of two meetings on the season. The Blackhawks came out flat this evening in a 2-1 loss to the New York Rangers, showing a classic Olympic hangover. With a league-high 10 players returning from Russia, the ‘Hawks hope to jumpstart their league-leading offense that’s managed to net just one goal in their last two games. Power play woes also continue for Chicago, as they’ve failed to recored a goal with the man advantage over their last three games.

The Blackhawks must look to score early and capitalize on a disciplined Penguins team that is second in the NHL penalty kill percentage. Fans of both teams should look for plenty of action, as six of the NHL’s top-20 scorers will be on display. With all the offensive firepower, Chicago needs to find their goal scoring touch to help avoid overtime situations that have doomed them all season. If tonight’s game against the Rangers was any indication, the ‘Hawks simply needed time to reassimilate and assert themselves. Once the third period arrived, the Blackhawks managed to outshoot the Rangers 13-2, but jet lag doomed the ‘Hawks, pushing them into third place in the Western Conference.

With a relatively light schedule remaining, fans can hope that the team can remain healthy for their playoff push and turn some of those overtime losses into regulation W’s. The march towards a sixth Stanley Cup continues Saturday at Soldier Field. Make sure to check out our homepage for all pre and post-game banter.

Be sure to check out your local Chicagoland Can-Am Spyder dealership for a test drive or to find out more information.
