It’s still Summer time in Chicago and St. Louis but in a few months, the NHL season will begin again.
On Tuesday, the league gave us our first look at some details for the 2017 Winter Classic between the Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues. The game will take place on January 2, 2017 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
The league held a press conference to unveil the new logo:
We can't mask our excitement any longer. #WinterClassic #stlblues pic.twitter.com/PnhMXc1z1j
— St. Louis Blues (@StLouisBlues) August 9, 2016
As you can see, the logo pays homage to St. Louis’ most popular landmark the Arch. It also features a streaking puck to cross the “t” in Winter. The game is sponsored by Bridgestone, so expect to see that logo slapped everywhere imaginable when marketing the game.
The Blackhawks-Blues rivalry picked up some steam when St. Louis eliminated Chicago in the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2016. The stage of the Winter Classic will be the another chapter in the rivalry between the two cities which also extends into baseball.
The Cubs eliminated the Cardinals in the NLDS in 2015 and is currently scheduled to open the 2017 MLB season in St. Louis. That could change however.
Stay tuned for more on the game including a jersey unveiling later in 2016.

Are you planning on going to the 2017 Winter Classic? I anticipate this one to be the best one of all time with the calibre of talent on both of these teams. Tickets go on sale to the General Public on Tuesday, October 18, 2016. I’d go myself, but I want to attend the Centennial Classic in Toronto as it is much closer to me. Well, that and I went to see the Maple Leafs play in Ann Arbor, Michigan for the 2014 Winter Classic.
