The Chicago Bears have been heavily linked to Nick Chubb after missing out on a running back in the early rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft. The Bears wanted Boise State star Ashton Jeanty but were unwilling to pay a steep price to take him in the top five. The Las Vegas Raiders took him at No. 6.
The Bears wound up taking Rutgers standout Kyle Monangai in the seventh round on Saturday. Still, the backfield feels incomplete with a seventh-round pick competing for carries after the way Roschon Johnson and D’Andre Swift played last season.
Chicago Bears RB target close to signing in the division

Per Ken Carman of 92.3 The Fan, Chubb is “close” to signing with an “NFC North” team. Carman wouldn’t name the team, but said that it’s unlikely Chubb returns to the Cleveland Browns after they selected running backs Quinshon Judkins and Dylan Sampson in the 2025 draft.
“Are we ready to say goodbye to Nick Chubb,” Carman asked. “A silence came over the room. Are we ready? I’ll ask it again. Are we ready to say goodbye? It’s over. I gotta tell you guys, maybe I shouldn’t say because it’s going to kind of cast appall over the room. I heard he is kind of getting close to another team.
“Happens to be in the NFC North… All great things got to come to an end. I hope he comes back. I really do hope, but it’s it’s looking more and more unlikely that both sides, I think both sides, are kind of ready to move on.”

Given the state of the running back rosters in the NFC North, it’s likely that Carman is talking about the Bears.
Nick Chubb was stellar before his knee injury in 2023

Chubb has been with the Browns since they drafted him in the second round of the 2018 draft. He earned All-Pro honors in 2022 and has made four Pro Bowl appearances.
Chubb suffered a serious injury in 2023 when he tore his MCL and damaged his ACL in Week 2. He made a return to the field in Week 7 of the 2024 campaign. His season ended early when he broke his foot in Week 15.
Brown has been one of the best ground-and-pound rushers in the league when healthy. He’s rushed for 6,843 yards and 51 touchdowns on 1,340 attempts, 5.1 yards per rush. He’s added 1,042 yards and five touchdowns in the passing game.
If healthy, Chubb would provide the thunder for Swift’s lightning. However, he wasn’t the same running back in 2024 that he was before his knee injury. He averaged just 3.3 yards per rush last season, adding 332 yards on 102 carries.
