If you remember back in August of 2016, I wrote on my experience in the Nike Chi League. The good folks at Nike Chicago put us through a circuit of training sessions to get us ready for the media game.
Although I couldn’t participate in the media game, I still had a blast at the training sessions.
This year, I participated in the media game as well as a six-week program that put us through some awesome training sessions. Our first one was held at the Nike Chicago studio where we worked out with trainer David Carson.
The theme for this year was #RiseChicago, which you can search via Twitter and Instagram to see more on the Nike Chi League from my fellow participants.
Our training sessions included working on building our strength, improving our basketball skills, boxing and conditioning.
But arguably the coolest part was how Nike transformed some of the more iconic High School gyms in the city into themes. Local artist Phillip Scott incorporated Chicago legends into each court, including Marshall where we had an intense training session just weeks before the game.
During these training sessions, Nike provided us with some awesome new footwear to test out. We were able to test out the KD 10, the PG 1, the Nike React Hyperdunk 2017 and the Jordan Super.Fly 2017.
Each of those shoes provided something different for the game. For example, the KD 10 is styled after Kevin Durant’s game which includes cutting to the basket, finishing at the basket and pulling up for a jumper.
Meanwhile, the PG 1 is modeled after Paul George’s game, as the Oklahoma City Thunder star is one of the best pure scorers in the NBA.
The training sessions helped us when it was time to tip it off in the Nike Chi League Media Game. We got to play in front of a nice crowd at Quest Multisport in Chicago, to help kickoff the final weekend of the Nike Chi League.
It was a great overall experience, even better because I was apart of the winning squad, but something that I can’t thank Nike enough for. They have been fantastic in this whole program and I’m looking forward to it again next year!
