Chicago Bulls center Nikola Vucevic is once more a hot item in the rumor mill, as new trade rumors surrounding his name started floating around, suggesting that the Phoenix Suns may be eyeing him as a new addition to their roster.
HoopsHype reported that the Phoenix Suns may be eyeing Nikola Vucevic, and may be willing to offer some of their less-utilized names plus added draft compensation to acquire the Bulls center and what he can offer for the team.
The report said: “The Suns are said to be interested in Chicago’s Nikola Vucevic and would seem to have an obvious pathway to making the Bulls an offer by attaching draft compensation to the contract of Jusuf Nurkić.”
The speculated trade deal could be an attempt by the Suns to boost their frontcourt, despite sacrificing future picks along the way, to improve their chances of getting more competitive in the Western Conference.
In an interview, Nikola Vucevic admitted to being aware of trade rumors about him but has learned to accept it as part of basketball.
He said: “I’m used to it at this point. Since I’ve been with the Bulls, I’ve been in a lot of trade stories, especially last summer as well throughout last season. So it’s just part of it.”
During the Bulls’s recent victory against the Milwaukee Bucks, Nikola Vucevic made 23 points, 13 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Nikola Vucevic Clarifies “Playing for Four More Years” Comment
In a prior interview, Nikola Nucevic was quoted saying he wanted to play four more years. However, he eventually clarified the statement and said that he was misunderstood with what he said. Rather than directly wanting to play four more years, he meant that there was the possibility of him extending his two-year contract for two more years.
“I have two more years in this contract (with the Bulls),” he said. “And hopefully I’m able to get two more after that, which will take me to 37. And at that time, I’ll have to see what I would like to do. This is more [than] four years of me being at a high level. Maybe in two years, I’ll say four more. I said it in the moment; I didn’t think it’d turn into such a big thing.”
So far this year, Nikola Vucevic averages 20.7 points per game, 9.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists. He shoots 57.3% from the field, and 46.5 from beyond the arc.
