On Wednesday, it appeared the Chicago Bulls‘ opportunity to hasten their rebuild came to a stretching halt just days after sending Zach LaVine to the Sacramento Kings on Sunday night.
The Bulls had been trying to shop Lonzo Ball this week, but the team did not want to take on the 27-year-old point guard’s salary. On Wednesday night, Chicago agreed to a two-year contract extension worth $20 million.
The move was announced moments after the Golden State Warriors pulled off a trade to take disgruntled star Jimmy Butler off the Miami Heat’s hands. The Bulls were in talks with the Warriors over trading Nikola Vucevic, and a deal seemed only to be in play if Butler didn’t go to Northern California.
The Chicago Bulls could still pull off a trade

Following the Bulls’ 127-108 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night, Vucevic admitted he didn’t think a deal would happen by the trade deadline.
Per K.C. Johnson, the “talk hasn’t fully died” between the Bulls and Warriors as of Thursday morning. The Warriors are in play to add the center.
Despite Vooch saying this ⬇️ last night, the Warriors-Bulls talk hasn’t fully died, I’m told. Four and a half hours to go . . . https://t.co/01HG2tmpTa

The Golden State Warriors are making a run

Golden State is doing everything possible to make a postseason run with Steph Curry on the roster. The Warriors are 25-25 in the Western Conference, which puts them at 11th. They have the same record as the Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings.
The Kings added LaVine to pair with former Bulls teammate DeMar DeRozan, so the Warriors need as much help as they can get.
At 34, Vucevic is averaging 19.5 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game.
