The Northern Illinois Huskies are BCS busters.
News broke earlier today that sources confirmed Northern Illinois would be playing in the BCS Orange Bowl against Florida State.
It’s now official as the BCS standing were revealed today on ESPN. Now Jordan Lynch and the Huskies have the chance to show the country what they can do against the ACC’s Florida State Seminoles.
The decision isn’t making too many people happy, as ESPN analysts have been ripping NIU and the BCS during their BCS show.
After finishing 12-1 on the season, with their only loss to Iowa (by one point), NIU becomes the first MAC team to reach a BCS Bowl game. The Huskies were ranked #21 going into their MAC Championship match-up against Kent State, and have soared to #15 now. Leaving the Oklahoma Sooners wondering how they didn’t get into a BCS Bowl.
NIU will not be coached by Dave Doeren, who left the team to take the North Carolina State job on Saturday. Instead, offensive line coach Rod Carey will be named the schools next head Football coach and coach the Huskies in the Orange Bowl.
The game will be played in Miami on January 1st.
