EVANSTON, Ill. The Northwestern Wildcats WR Kyle Prater hauled in eight receptions for 86-yards for the Big Cats as they lose to Michigan 10-9 after quarterback Trevor Siemian slipped and fell on a two-point conversion play in the final seconds of the game down by one.
Siemian finished throwing 32 of 50 for 273 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions against the Wolverines. Siemian had just thrown his lone touchdown pass of the night to WR Tony Jones in the far corner to pull his team within one.
Unfortunately, Siemian stumbles and fall on the next play trying to roll out to his right to convert on the two-point conversion.
According to InsideNU twitter page, Coach Pat Fitzgerald stated he didn’t trust his offense to win the game for the Cats in OT, so had to go for the conversion.
The Wildcats have fallen to the Wolverines in the previous years in Overtime as well, dropping a game in OT two years ago and then losing in triple-OT last season.
The Northwestern Wildcats fall to 3-6 overall and 2-4 in Big Ten play. That’s Northwestern’s fourth straight lost as well, third straight lost to the Wolverines in games coming down to the wire.
Michigan Wolverines improve to 5-5 overall and 3-3 in the Big Ten as they chase bowl game eligibility and keep their post season hopes alive.
Northwestern stats: Trevor Siemian 32 of 50 for 273 yards, TD, 2-INTs; Justin Jackson 17 rushes for 35-yards; Tony Jones 7 catches for 59-yards and a touchdown.
Michigan stats: Devin Gardner 11 of 24 for 109 yards and two interceptions; RB De’Veon Smith carried 18 times for 121 yards and a touchdown. (Career high in rushing yards)
