Northwestern has announced that senior running back Venric Mark is suspended for the first two games of the season. Northwestern plays California on August 30 for the home opener and Northern Illinois at home on September 6.
Mark was suspended for undisclosed violation of team policy. “I made a mistake and am prepared to deal with the consequences of that,” the senior said in a statement released by the school. “There’s no one that holds me to a higher standard than the one I hold myself to, so nobody is more disappointed than I am.”
He received a medical hardship granting him a fifth year of eligibility after sitting out most of 2013 with injuries. Mark was an All-American punt returner in 2012 and ran for over 1300 yards. His first game back will be at home against Western Illinois September 20
