For the past few seasons the Northwestern Wildcats starting quarterback position has been Quarterback A and Quarterback B as starters. As Northwestern had a dual threat QB in Cain Colter who has recently graduated from the University and is now pursuing a roster spot with the Minnesota Vikings camp, and QB Trevor Siemian with a strong arm and is not too bad on his feet as well. Heading in to the 2014-15 season, there’s been changes.
Siemian will be entering his senior year here at Northwestern and will full on be the starter for the team and not “Quarterback 1B” as before when he usually came in behind Colter in situations. With that being said the Wildcats will have a different look to there offense mostly.
Likely NU head coach Pat Fitzgerald will look to run more of a spread offense this upcoming season. Northwestern lost the running ability of Cain Colter as well as his ability to get out of the pocket under pressure, yet gained another positive. Running back Venric Mark is back for a fifth year with the team after getting approved at the end of last season, Mark struggled last season with injuries and is now back in prime shape to really be dominant and a force to be recon with on this Northwestern offense along with NU’s junior superback Dan Vitale.
With Siemian being the man for Northwestern, it can be more said that the offense may look more “polished” this season. Siemian receiving all snaps and calling all plays will keep the offense flowing and moving like a well polished machine.
If Northwestern can stay healthy this season, they might find themselves back at yet another bowl game this season. If everything seems to go right for them on offense and if they can somehow lead the NCAA in defense (takeaways) why not involve them in Big Ten title contention talk?
