The Northwestern Wildcats look to rebound from all the let downs of last season.
Kicking off their 13-14 season unbeaten, the Northwestern Wildcats were in prime position to really make some noise in the Big Ten Conference as well as the nation. They were ranked 16th in the nation heading in to their homecoming game vs Ohio State last season. After that night the Wildcats season took a complete turn for the worst.
The Cats went in to the game 4-0 and after losing the game despite playing great and having their offense rolling over the Buckeyes the Cats fell to the Buckeyes that night and from then on lost 7 straight only to win their final game over their rival The Fighting Illini. Last season was more than a disappointment for the Cats compared to their previous season in which ended with a Gator Bowl win over Mississippi State.
Now the Cats are in a great position to make another run in the Big Ten, a conference that has seen a few more additions to its ranks in Rutgers and Maryland.
Last season:
Northwestern Wildcats
Head Coach: Pat Fitzgerald
2013 record: 5-7
The Wildcats biggest plus this 2014-2015 season on offense will likely be that the team is now officially Senior quarterback Trevor Siemian’s (like I expressed in my previous article), star runningback Venric Mark returning for a 5th year, depth at the Wideout position and the sticking together like glue of the team’s Offensive line. The Wildcats have nine starters returning on offense.
In a Pat Fitzgerald system, the Cats are still a threat to dethrone any top team in any game on any night, the Wildcats are definitely a sleeper team and although they’ll win games this upcoming season still won’t be looked upon as a great football team. The Wildcats will fly under the radar yet again this upcoming season although they will be a pretty good football team that plays hard and gets it done day in and day out. Fitzgerald takes team chemistry very seriously at Northwestern, there’s no I in Northwestern.
