It appears Center Olin Kreutz’s days with the Chicago Bears are coming to an end. Although Kreutz hasn’t signed with another team in free agency, the six-time Pro Bowl center began informing teammates on Saturday that he doesn’t anticipate re-signing with the team that drafted him in the third round of the 1998 draft.
“He’s always wanted to make a deal with the Bears. But right now, it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen,” said Kreutz’s agent, Mark Bartlestein.
Kreutz’s experience and leadership ability were reasons that Bears coach Lovie Smith, offensive coordinator Mike Martz, and offensive line coach Mike Tice were adamant throughout the offseason that the team wanted to bring Kreutz back to direct what was expected to be somewhat of an inexperienced offensive line.
Another questionable move, or lack there of by Angelo and the Bears organization. Many Bears players say he runs the locker room and the Bears “need” to re-sign him. It will be interesting to see who will run the locker room now.
