There’s no love lost in the Chicago Bears‘ rivalry with the Green Bay Packers.
New Bears head coach Ben Johnson threw some kerosene on the fire when he quipped that he had “gotten used” to beating Packers head coach Matt LaFleur twice per season in the NFC North, during his time as the Detroit Lions’ offensive coordinator.
But, one of LaFleur’s players took things a step further, taking a shot at the city of Chicago and Bears fans, alike.
Rashan Gary throws shade at Chicago, and Bears fans
During the annual Pro Bowl Games, Packers stars Rashan Gary and Xavier McKinney took part in a game show called “Helmet Harmony” where they were asked questions in a similar format to the Newlywed Game. One of the questions was which was the pair’s least favorite city to play in.
Gary left little doubt about how he feels about facing off against the Bears.
“Everybody knows the reason,” Gary answered. “What’s understood don’t got to be explained…Go Pack Go.”
Maybe Gary should have explained.
Whether he’s not a fan of the deep dish pizza spots frequented by visiting players when they’re in town, or the dank visiting locker rooms at Soldier Field is anyone’s guess.
But, this certainly feels like a bit more gamesmanship coming from the Packers after Johnson’s comments and could set the stage for some added intensity when the rivals square off twice next season.
