The Chicago Blackhawks win their first shootout of the year, defeating the Anaheim Ducks by a final score of 3-2 improving their home record to 3-0-2.
After a scoreless first period, Ryan Getzlaf got the Ducks on the board on the power-play off of a nice feed from Corey Perry and Teemu Selanne.
Mid-way through the second period, Patrick Kane pulled of a Denis Savard-like spin-o-rama feeding Marian Hossa who buried the shot past Anaheim goaltender Jonas Hiller to tie the game at 1 a piece.
A little over 6 minutes later, Andrew Cogliano forced a turnover that led to a Teemu Selanne breakaway goal putting Anaheim back up by a goal.
In the third period, Patrick Sharp rifled a slapshot past Jonas Hiller from a Patrick Kane pass once again tying the game. The Blackhawks nearly won the game with 2.4 seconds left when Marian Hossa rang the final shot off the pipe.
In the shootout, Patrick Kane net the game-winner which earned him the first star of the game. “It’s about time we scored a shootout goal,” Kane said after the game.
