Daddy’s home! Two days after his daughter, Madelyn, is born, Patrick Sharp scores the game-winning goal for the Chicago Blackhawks in overtime to defeat the San Jose Sharks 3-2.
For the first time this season, Ray Emery earned himself back-to-back starts and man was he tested early.
The Sharks were credited with 17 shots in the first period, 1 of which ended up in the back of the net thanks to Jamie McGinn who knocked home his 6th goal of the season. San Jose also racked up another 16 shots in the second period. Marcus Kruger tied the game up a little under 8 minutes into the period deflecting a blast by Niklas Hjalmarsson.
Justin Braun scored his 1st goal of the year several minutes later to put the Sharks back up by a goal.
The third period was a much better period defensively for the Blackhawks and came out aggressive offensively. Antti Niemi was big all night for San Jose, but Chicago found a way to sneak out the game-tying goal with the extra attacker. Andrew Brunette was credited with a tip-in goal off the shot of Marian Hossa to send the game in overtime.
Patrick Sharp whacked home the game-winning goal in overtime as the Blackhawks improve their home record to 9-2-3.
Ray Emery played phenomenal stopping 35 of the 37 shots faced.
