As I said last week, Jake might have been hearing the chants of Cy Young! Cy Young! Cy Young! Tonight, more and more people might have been starting those chants. Jake was excellent as he took a perfect game into the 6th inning. However the clock struck mid night for his no hit bid as John Buck took him deep. Peavy went 8 innings giving up only 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 8. Only other pitcher to pitch for the Sox tonight was Sergio Santos. Santos gave up 1 run on 2 hits. He would eventually strike out Lyle Overbay to end the game. Sergio entered the game having pitched 11.1 innings this season allowing 0 runs. He retired 2 batters until Vernon Wells singled to right field on a ball that was barely out of the reach of Carlos Quentin.
The Sox bats and legs came alive today as the scored 7 runs, 3 of which came on RBI walks. Paul Konerko hit his Major League leading 13th home run in the 1st, and how has 27 RBI on the season. Andruw Jones was once again active as he hit an RBI triple. Konerko, Beckham, Jones, Teahen, Rios and Quentin all had RBI’s tonight. Beckham’s, Rios’ and Teahen’s RBI all came from the RBI walk variety as Roenicke was terrible in his 1.1 innings of work.
The Sox left 7 men on base while the Jays left 2 on.
The Sox look to even up the series tomorrow at 1:05.
