In times when people ask, should we go get Roy Oswalt? Or, who is going to replace Jake? It may be hard to answer those. I mean, it’s not that easy to replace the ace of your staff for half a season. However, Daniel Hudson must have quieted some of his doubters with his dominating performance against the Mariners tonight.
From the beginning, the game was not always in the Sox favor. The Mariners started off hot in the bottom of the 1st when Branyan knocked in Figgins with the RBI double. That is all the Hudson would allow and it was all South Side from there. In the 3rd Alex Rios would tie the game with a sac fly to score Juan Pierre making it 1-1. In the 5th it was again Rios, this time with a 2 run home run. A ground out by Omar Vizquel would put the Sox up 4-1 after 7. The Sox would continue their hot hitting in the 8th when Andruw Jones hit a home run to deep left field. Gordon Beckham would then knock in Alexei to make it 6-1, and that’s how it would end.
Sure there was plenty of offense but that can not dismiss what a great job young Daniel Hudson did tonight. Hudson allowed just 1 run on 5 scattered hits in 6.2 innings of work. Thornton, Linebrink and Pena would close out the game for the White Sox, giving them their first win since the day after the all-star break.
The Sox look to keep there bats hot tomorrow night in Seasttle.
