The Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers rivalry is back.
Although the rivalry never really left between the fans, it’s tampered down a little bit among the players involved over the years. But 2015 is different. Now the rivalry is back and hopefully better than ever.
It all started back in September when Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said we’re “gonna whoop Chicago’s ass” during a Welcome Back Luncheon held by the team. While the comment didn’t rattle John Fox publicaly, we are pretty certain most players were aware of it and didn’t like it.
Just a few days later, the Packers beat the Bears at Soldier Field in week one as quarterback Aaron Rodgers added some more fuel to fire with his comments. “It’s always fun to beat the Bears,” Rodgers told reporters following the Packers win.
Those comments didn’t sit well with Bears players and especially Pernell McPhee. The linebacker took exception to the comments and wanted to change things. On Thanksgiving, the Bears did just that.
Going into Lambeau Field and defeating the Packers was the biggest win of the season for the team and it was a little extra special. Chicago has struggled the last eight or so seasons against the Packers winning only one time at Lambeau since 2008. But things might be changing. The Bears have a new coaching staff which has so far shown they can get this team, despite injuries, to perform above expectations. Don’t believe me, see Jay Cutler’s play this season.
Adding more fuel to the fire is McPhee who had this to say following the win over the Packers via Jeff Dickerson:
C’mon, the quarterback said he loved beating up on us. Who he think we are? We ain’t the team from last year, or two years ago, or three years ago. You know what I’m saying? This is the 2015 Chicago Bears. A lot of guys took it personal, especially when some guy says he love beating up on your brother. I ain’t going to let nobody come and beat my little brother up.
You know, we went in there and slapped him on his ass. They need to go ask him how that feels.
Get ready folks, this is going to be a fun rivalry again.
