Maybe the Chicago Bears hired Shane Waldron as their offensive coordinator last offseason in a fact-finding mission to gain intel on another NFL coach while sabotaging Matt Eberflus’ third season and ensuring his early exit.
After all, the Bears front office knows what they’re doing, with chairman George McMcaskey overseeing his sixth head coaching search since 2012. Supposedly the Bears exhaustive coaching search this offseason is all about finding key intel on the top coaches they want to hire.
One head coach the Bears are keying in on was Waldron’s head coach in 2023. Waldron was the offensive coordinator for Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks before the team went 9-8, and Carroll was fired.
The Chicago Bears are “enamored” with Pete Carroll
Per George Ofman, the Bears are “enamored” with Carroll following his presentation with the team.
“Told Bears’ brass was extremely impressed with Pete Carroll and his presentation and are very enamored of the “young” 73 year old coach,” Ofman posted on X.

If hired, the Bears would be Carroll’s fourth stop in the NFL as a head coach. He coached the New York Jets in 1994 and had a three-year stint with the New England Patriots from 1997-1999. Following a successful run at USC where he won a national championship in 2004, Carroll left for Seattle.
Carroll won Super Bowl XLVIII with the Seahawks. He has a 170-120-1 record in the league. His winning percentage (.586) is worse than Mike McCarthy’s (.608).
