Fans at Wrigley Field are getting a little taste of the future here lately with the call-ups of Arismendy Alcantara, Kyle Hendricks and the latest being Javier Baez. The Chicago Cubs still have plenty of talent awaiting in the minor league organizations, with Kris Bryant being the one Cubs fans want to see now. Other top prospect’s on their way up are Addison Russell, Albert Almora, Jorge Soler and Kyle Schwarber.
The bats are on their way up, the only problem is the pitching depth is slim. You can hit all the home runs you want but you need good pitching as well. The Cubs have made a couple of moves this year already getting Felix Doubront from the Boston Red Sox and Jacob Turner from the Miami Marlins.
Depending on who re-signs with their current team I have put together a list of potential free agent pitchers the Cubs can court this off-season. There is good depth of talent on this list but some will demand a good payday, something I’m not sure if the Cubs are willing to do. Theo Epstein seems to like the prospect way of things but myself think some good veteran leadership will take these kids far.
Potential free-agent pitchers Cub can court:
Jon Lester (31)
Ryan Dempster (38)
Colby Lewis (35)
Justin Masterson (30)
Brandon McCarthy (31)
Max Scherzer (30)
James Shields (33)
Josh Beckett (35)
