The Denver Broncos defense dominated Super Bowl 50 led by linebacker Von Miller who won the game’s MVP award. Miller and the Broncos defense held the Panthers to just 10 total points and put the clamps down on quarterback Cam Newton.
Now the team is receiving some praise from President Barack Obama.
Head coach Gary Kubiak and linebacker DeMarcus Ware spoke with Obama over the phone at the Broncos’ headquarters in Englewood, Colorado on Tuesday. Obama opened up the conversation by congratulating them on the win before handing out a compliment.
“I want to let you know, that’s about as good of a defense I’ve seen since the ’85 Bears,” Obama said. “Well I’ll tell you what DeMarcus, congratulations. It’s good to see old men do so good.”
Earlier in the week linebacker Danny Trevathan said that this Broncos defense was better than the ’85 Bears. Oddly enough Trevathan showed some interest in reuniting with former head coach John Fox last week.
The debate of defense will go on forever, but it’s a compliment to the ’85 Bears that other teams continue to compare their play to them.
