WTB? Also known as what the Buehrle? Buehrle again was awful tonight going only 5.1 innings. Mark gave up 12 hits and 6 earned runs. The Sox actually gave Buehrle a 4-0 lead before he started giving the runs back. Paul Konerko got the party started with an rbi ground out. The Slumping Carlos Quentin also took one deep which gave the Sox a 2-0 lead. Gordon Beckham got in on the fun as he had and rbi single and A.J. finished off the 3 run inning with an rbi ground out of his own.
It all started to unravel for Mark after the 3rd. Kinsler singled to left to cut the lead down to 4-1 but the Sox were still comfortable. Gentry then singled to left to make it a 4-2 game. And here we go, this is where the fun starts. Michael Young then hit a sac fly to make it a 4-3 game, could Mark pitch out of it? No. Ian Kinsler doubled DEEP to left field which would give the Rangers there first lead of the game.
In most games it would seem like the Sox would lose confidence after blowing the lead but tonight they kept fighting. Gordon Beckham stepped up in the bottom half of the inning. Gordon again would know another run in to make it 7-5 Rangers. After that, Pierre walked and AJ reached base. Paul Konerko would step up and get the RBI walk but the threat would end there when Kotsay flied out to center(Just when we were beginning to like him!).
Smoak would knock in one in the 7th and again in the 9th with a solo shot to left.
The Sox would make it close in the 9th. Rios singled to get things started. Pauly walked. Kotsay struck out(he was 0-5, OUCH!). Quentin would then walk to give the Sox bases loaded with one out. But with no surprise Alexei came up Home run hitting and popped easily to Kinsler at second. Omar would then end the game with a pop out to center field.
There were some positives tonight. Every player except Juan Pierre and Mark Kotsay got a hit. Pierre did have 2 walks though, while Kotsay was 0-5 with no walks. Beckham seems to be liking June as he was 2-4 with 2 rbi. The struggling Quentin would also blast one out of the park.
On the negative side Buehrle struggled once again and his day was finished very quickly. The Rangers managaed to crank out 19 hits against Sox pitching.
