Coming off the series win in Cleveland, the Sox had to be feeling good about themselves. The offense had been very good the last couple of games and the bullpen was excellent! However, the Sox offense was no match for Jeff Niemann(5-0) and the Rays.
Carl Crawford made quick work of Gavin Floyd as he homered to start the bottom of the first inning. There would be no scoring again until the 5th when Carl Crawford came up again and hit a sac fly to left field. In the 6th Evan Longoria would add to the fun with a home run of his own to make it 3-0. Mark Teahen would try to get the Sox back into it with a solo shot of his own but in the bottom of the inning Blalock would single to score 2. Final Score- Rays:5 Sox: 1.
Gavin Floyd was average out there today as he went 7 innings giving up 3 runs on only 4 hits. Scott Linebrink continues to struggle as in the one inning he pitched in relief he allowed 2 runs.
Pierre, Kotsay, Konerko, Jones and Alexei were all held hitless in the loss today.
The Sox could only muster out 4 hits and also committed 2 errors. The Sox left 4 on base.
